Fifth grade students at Lumpkin County Elementary School visited the Starbooks Café December 12. The café opens two times each school year to celebrate students and their reading goals.
Students were served Christmas hot cocoa, snow frosted donuts, and reindeer snack mix. After chats and snacks, the student took part in an amazing caroling and dancing session led by Chuck Bell. Chuck led the group of over 120 students in holiday tunes with lots of holiday cheer. The celebration concluded with the Top Ten of the Tribe. Principal Gerrells introduced the group of top ten readers and presented them with holiday stockings. The top ten students were Rylan Armstrong, Lacey Fuller, Lily Hornbeck, Jackson Martin, Davis McEntyre, Caleb Pfrogner, Jacob Puckett, Reagan Richardson, Matthew Weber and Cecilia Woody. Leading the pack for the group was Davis McEntyre. He was presented to the group as the leading points holder and given a special Starbooks shirt. The entire grade level cheered for Davis.
Many thanks to everyone working to make our celebration amazing. Volunteers included Joni McElwaney, Tonia Conner, and Chuck Bell. Fifth grade teachers and the school administration took part in the organization and implementation of the celebration too. The café would not be possible without our amazing parents, faculty and community.
The next opening of the café is scheduled for May.
